Welcome to Gratitude Gems, where I show a little appreciation for the good things in my life!
Some days it’s hard to be thankful. My husband’s bike was stolen from where it was locked on our porch sometime between yesterday afternoon and today when I got home from work, and knowing that someone took our property really bothers me. They even took apart the porch railing to do it. We feel violated, and know there is little chance we will ever see that bike again.
The thing is though, even while I chatted with my husband about it we consoled ourselves with the fact that we can always get a new bike. We have the means. We both earn a full time living and we could afford to buy a new bike. Not everyone could say that. Sure it stings that our property was taken from us, but we found something to be thankful for despite the theft. It’s all about perspective, I suppose.
Maybe we’ll get the bike back. Probably not, but I suppose you never know – in a complete fluke, a friend of ours got his bike back two years after it was stolen. Nevertheless we will remain thankful for the things we have. And we may electrify our porch railing.
