Gratitude Gems: A Weekend Full of Birthdays

a birthday

Welcome to Gratitude Gems, where I show a little appreciation for the good things in my life!

This weekend I got to finally celebrate my birthday with my immediate family.  And since my brother’s birthday is just before mine and we didn’t celebrate his previously either, it was truly a family birthday affair.  Plus it was my mother-in-law’s birthday and that involved additional celebrations.  Plus plus, we also celebrated a friend’s belated birthday!  It was a weekend full of birthday goodness. Overthinking Kindness

overthinking

To my surprise, one of the 32 goals I set for myself this year, to complete 12 random acts of kindness, has continually eluded me.  To the untrained eye (you, dear reader) that might indicate that I’m just generally an unkind person, after all how hard can it be to be kind to someone at random?

Well for me, it’s proved quite difficult.

To be completely honest, I think this is all due to a mental block on my part.  A problem of semantics, of technicalities, of definitions.  It’s all in my head.   Continue Reading »

Framing Our Decor Situation

interior design

One of my favourite ways to make a house (or a townhouse) feel like a home is to put pictures up on the walls.  A few years ago in our previous house, I embarked on a risky endeavour creating two collages on the walls of our living room/front hallway.  I briefly tried out some arrangements on the floor before transferring to the wall using only my eye for leveling and measurements.  I was impressed with myself that both collages worked out and they lasted on our walls for the remaining 3 years we were in that place.

But plenty can change over 3 years, and those pictures were old even at the time we moved last spring.  When I thought about settling into our new digs, I knew that I didn’t just want to put up the same pictures I already had in those frames I used in the collages, so I made it a goal this year to update those photos before putting them on display. Gratitude Gems: Happy Birthday to Me!

DSC04264 - Copy

Welcome to Gratitude Gems, where I show a little appreciation for the good things in my life!

It was my birthday yesterday, and I have lots to be thankful for!  I got to hang about in my pajamas for as long as I wanted, and I played video games, and I read, and I got lots of Harlowe cuddles, and I ate pie, and my hubby gave me the cutest birthday card and a beautiful scarf, and we went out with two of our very best friends for a fancy dinner, and I went for a walk with my love around downtown afterwards!  Altogether it was an awesome day!

It’s hard to imagine that, this time next year, our baby will be almost a year old already!  My 33rd year may prove to be my most exciting yet!

I have never been more happy to be pregnant! Continue Reading »

A Simplistic Dystopian Read

a dystopiaAs part of my reading challenge, I had to read a book I should have read in high school.  Initially I had no idea what I’d read to fulfill this requirement, and then a friend of mine asked if I’d read The Giver.

Apparently, she read it in high school and was surprised that many people she’d asked had not – since she read it in school she assumed others had as well.  I had not, and she proceeded to give rave reviews about how interesting a read it is.  Not only that, but the three sequels were also worth reading, if I was interested.  I quickly made a note for myself that The Giver would be my “from high school” selection.
